As the last round approaches next month, the Desert heat pulls the teams to the circuit of Dubai. Round 9 of the World Sports Car Challenge went ahead last night, with the teams ready to claim victory, the stakes could not have been higher.
Both GT3 and LMP2 categories knew that the points obtained at Dubai yesterday would make or break their hopes of winning the championship, and it showed.
The start of the race was fast, very fast. With the front running teams putting everything on the line so early on in the 6 hour event. An early advantage would not come however, as the max grip endurance team, black hawk racing, rapid racing and Fair racing would all fighting for the overal lead in the first hour of the event.
In GT3, battles ensued between the #36 Morabia Rebellion car, the Poland Sim Racing #07 and #94, along with ANBU and Martini Racing. The first hour of the race again would see the teams battle it out for the overal top spot, with contact being made during this period of time.
The #36 leading chevrolet Camaro would suffer engine failure as the cars headed towards the darkness however, alowing the 07 BMW M6 to pass with ease into the lead of the event. Further casualties would mount with the #94 BMW retiring for the same reason. A bad result for Team RSI, as they struggled in qualifying, starting the race from 9/10 in class. The retirements would help them climb to 4th in class however, the first time the RSI team has not achieved a podium finish in the season.
In LMP2 a battle emerged for 3rd in class between the max grip endurance team, the #54 of Fair racing, and Rapid racing. All the teams changed tactics, going to the end of the race as best as they could, After the final pit stop, it would be the two rival teams of Rapid Racing and Max Grip Endurance who would come to a head on the last 15 minutes of the Race. contact was made and the position changed 3-4 times before the chequered flag finally dropped. However it would be Rapid racing who took the position away, closing the championship points to Max Grip Endurance heading towards Spa!
